Biggest Upcoming Changes in PoE 2 in 2025 – Our Feedback and Predictions for PoE 2 Future

Path of Exile 2 has been out for a while now, and while it’s an incredible game with a bright future, there are major issues that need fixing. If Grinding Gear Games (GGG) plays its cards right, PoE 2 could dominate the ARPG scene for years to come.

In this guide, we’ll cover:

  • The biggest problems currently affecting PoE 2

  • Upcoming changes we predict for 2025

  • Our feedback on what GGG needs to fix ASAP

Let’s dive in!

1. Endgame Mapping – Why It’s a Problem

Endgame Mapping – A Problem that needs urgent solution

Right now, mapping in PoE 2 is frustrating and tedious.

Unlike PoE 1, where you could farm maps back-to-back, the new "create-your-own-endgame" system forces players through a long, clunky process.

Here's our take on Trading vs Mapping in PoE 2 to get rich.

What’s Wrong With the Current System?

-Tower Setup is a Hassle – You have to build multiple towers and overlap them just to add mechanics like Breach, Ritual, or Expedition.

-Waystones are Annoying – You need good Waystones, which means:

    • Finding and upgrading them to tier 15

    • Using PoE 2 currency to craft good modifiers

    • Rerolling them constantly just to get a decent map

-Map Layouts Can Ruin Your Run – Sometimes, even after setting everything up, the map layout ruins your strategy.

Tight corridors kill mechanics like Breach and Ritual.

    What Needs to Change?

    • Simplify mapping: Let players run maps back-to-back without excessive setup.

    • Improve Waystones: Let us pick specific modifiers instead of PoE 2 gambling on rolls.

    • Fix map layouts: Remove restrictive layouts that don’t work with certain mechanics.

Expect big mapping changes in 2025 as GGG listens to player feedback!

    2. Crafting System Needs an Overhaul

Crafting System in PoE 2 - Needs Overhaul

Right now, crafting in PoE 2 doesn’t feel rewarding. Instead of creating items, you’re just spamming Essences and Omens, hoping for a good outcome.

    Current Issues with Crafting:

    • No deterministic crafting – You can’t target specific mods reliably.

    • Too much RNG – Crafting feels like gambling instead of an actual system.

    • No real investment path – Farming doesn’t let you build towards specific upgrades.

    What’s the Fix?

    1. Bring back crafting tables – Allow players to add, remove, or upgrade mods with materials they farm.

    2. Introduce new currencies – PoE 1 had Metacrafting and Fossils—PoE 2 needs similar deterministic tools.

    3. Make crafting a progression system – Give players ways to farm materials for guaranteed upgrades.

Expect big crafting reworks in 2025, either through new mechanics or an overhaul of the crafting system itself.

    3. Leveling Alts is a Nightmare

Leveling Alts - A Nightmare in PoE 2

While the PoE 2 campaign is great on the first playthrough, replaying it on every character is painful.

    Why Leveling Alts Feels Bad:

    • Takes too long – Six acts per character means dozens of hours just to reach endgame.

    • Slow early game – You start with very few skills, making the first hour sluggish.

    • No campaign skip option – Unlike Diablo 4, you can’t just jump into endgame once you’ve completed the story once.

    Potential Fixes for 2025:

    • Campaign skip after the first playthrough – If GGG follows the Diablo model, this is a no-brainer.

    • More XP options – Maybe new players go through the full campaign, but veterans get a fast-track leveling system.

    • Alternate leveling paths – GGG could add other ways to level, like an XP-focused mapping system for second characters.

A better alt-leveling experience is needed, and 2025 should bring a solution!

    4. Meta Build Dominance & Balance Issues

Meta Build Dominance & Balance Issues in PoE 2

Right now, most PoE 2 meta builds are abusing two things:

    1. Herald of Ice + Herald of Thunder – Clearing entire screens for free.

    2. Stat-stacking builds – Abusing high Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence to gain ridiculous DPS scaling.

    Why This Is a Problem:

    • Every build is the same – Most top-tier builds follow the same formula.

    • Non-meta builds struggle – If you don’t play the meta, you get punished.

    • Endgame is too punishing for weak builds – If your build is bad, you lose Waystones, XP, and progress.

    What GGG Needs to Do:

    1. Balance skills better – Nerf overpowered interactions while buffing underused skills.

    2. Make non-meta builds viable – Introduce new support gems and items to boost off-meta playstyles.

    3. Reduce endgame punishment – Losing everything for failing a map is too harsh. There should be ways to recover progress.

Expect major build balance changes in 2025, making more builds endgame-viable.

    5. Quality-of-Life (QoL) Changes Are Desperately Needed

The biggest QoL issues right now:

    • No Map Stash Tab – Sorting Waystones manually is a nightmare.

    • Loot Management is Slow – You spend more time sorting items than playing.

    • Trading is Clunky – Unlike the clean currency exchange system, item trading is outdated and frustrating.

    6. The Future of Leagues in PoE 2 – What to Expect in 2025

The Future of Leagues in PoE 2 2025

Leagues have always been a core part of Path of Exile, offering fresh mechanics, new rewards, and temporary changes that shake up the meta.

However, PoE 2 hasn’t yet fully realized its potential for leagues, and players are eagerly waiting to see how they evolve in 2025. Here's the future of PoE 2.

What’s Missing in PoE 2 Leagues?

Unlike PoE 1, which introduced groundbreaking mechanics like Heist, Delirium, and Sentinel, the first leagues in PoE 2 feel smaller in scale.

    Here’s what needs to improve:

    • More League-Defining Mechanics – Instead of simple number tweaks, we need game-changing mechanics like PoE 1’s Betrayal or Expedition.

    • Better League Rewards – Right now, league rewards don’t feel unique enough to make them worth grinding.

    • More Interaction with the Core Game – Some leagues feel detached from the main game. Future leagues should integrate better with mapping, crafting, and trading.

    Predictions for 2025 Leagues

    1. Bigger, More Impactful League Mechanics – Expect a major league rework with deeper systems, not just one-off interactions.

    2. Stronger League-Specific Items – Unique gear designed around league mechanics to make builds more diverse.

    3. More Endgame League Content – Instead of focusing purely on leveling, leagues should add new bosses, dungeons, or challenge modes for high-level players.

    4. Improved League Economy – GGG might tweak league currency to prevent early-game inflation and make crafting more rewarding.

Leagues are PoE’s lifeblood, and 2025 will likely bring some of the most exciting updates yet!

    7. How the Upcoming PoE 2 Reset Will Change Everything

One of the biggest events coming to the game in 2025 is the PoE 2's first major reset, alongside its new league, which will have a massive impact on the economy, character progression, and meta.

While resets are a core part of PoE 1’s league cycle, PoE 2’s reset will be the first true test of its long-term progression systems.

    What Will the Reset Change?

    • Full Character Wipe – Expect all characters and items to be wiped, forcing everyone to start fresh.

    • New League Mechanics – The reset will likely launch alongside a major league, introducing fresh content and rewards.

    • Reworked Economy – With a fresh economy, the value of items and currency will change, making early-game trading more competitive.

    • Skill & Balance Adjustments – GGG will likely buff underused skills and nerf overpowered builds, shifting the meta.

    • Improved Campaign ExperiencePoE 2’s campaign has been criticized for being too long, and GGG might introduce a way to speed up leveling for alts.

How to Prepare for the Reset

    1. Plan Your Starting Build – Choose a build that’s strong even without expensive gear.

    2. Study the Patch Notes – Balance changes will completely shift the meta, so stay informed.

    3. Optimize Leveling Routes – If GGG adjusts the campaign, find the fastest path to maps.

    4. Prepare for Economy Shifts – Prices of key items will fluctuate—know what to sell early and what to hoard.

    5. Test Builds in Standard Mode – Before the reset, experiment with potential league starters to see what works.

This reset is a fresh start for everyone, bringing new opportunities to dominate the economy, refine builds, and experience fresh content.

If GGG executes it well, it could set the foundation for PoE 2’s long-term success.

Our QoL Wishlist for PoE 2 in 2025:

    1. Auto-sort button for loot – One click to send items to the right stash tabs.

    2. Better Waystone management – A dedicated Map Stash Tab to keep things organized.

    3. In-game Marketplace – Get rid of manual trade whispers—add an auction house or automated listing system.

QoL changes aren’t flashy, but they massively improve player experience.

GGG needs to prioritize these fixes in 2025.

Final Thoughts – The Future of PoE 2 in 2025

Path of Exile 2 is a fantastic game, but there’s still a lot of work to do.

If GGG listens to feedback, we could see massive improvements in 2025.

    Predictions for Upcoming Changes:

✔️ Reworked mapping system – Easier Waystones and better layouts.
✔️ Improved crafting – More deterministic options for customizing gear.
✔️ Alt-friendly leveling – Faster progression options for second characters.
✔️ Better skill balance – More build diversity instead of meta dominance.
✔️ Major QoL changes – Inventory sorting, trade improvements, and stash reworks.

With the next big expansion, PoE 2 could fix its biggest flaws and become the best ARPG of 2025.
