How to Beat Metyr, Mother of Fingers In Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree

Today we’re going to be checking out how to beat one of the more hidden bosses in Shadow of Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring. This boss is called Metyr, Mother of Fingers and it’s more of a challenge than you would think with a legendary classification, tons of health, a devastating move set, and a lot of damage. She will be summoning finger monsters in this boss fight, so using a fire weapon such as a blasphemous is going to be helpful, especially for taking them out.  Here’s the guide on How to defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in the Elden Ring DLC expansion.

Before we dive into this powerful shield tank build if you're looking to maximize your experience and save time, consider Buying Elden Ring Runes and items from MMOPixel. We offer reliable services to help you get ahead in your journey.

How to Find Metyr, Mother of Fingers

To even find Metyr, you’ll need to jump into _Ymir’s and Jolan's questline. To begin this, you’ll need to reach the location Cathedral of Manus Metyr.  Once there, speak with Count Ymir and he’ll give you a map to finger ruins. Be sure that every time you talk to him, you’re exhausting all of his dialogue.

From the Cerulean Coast Cross Site of Grace, you’ll need to follow the route to reach the finger ruins of Rhia. You’ll take a right into the little pathway and go all the way down the shoreline and once you reach this incline you’ll want to run up until you reach the top and exit to the right to find the ruins ahead. Once there find the large circular finger formation in the heart of ruins and step up to the hanging finger and blow horn.

Return to the Cathedral. Ymir will give you the second map which leads to the finger ruins of Dheo. From the hinterlands bridge site of Grace, just make your way down the path, run past every enemy you see, and Ring the second Hanging Bell.

Once there, talk to Count Ymir again then go rest at the site of Grace. Now the throne will be empty and you need to push the button on the front of it to unlock a hidden ladder underneath. Go down the long ladder and prepare to be invaded by the NPC Anna. Once you defeat her, you can either rest up back at the site of Grace or continue on the boss fight. If you use many Flasters during the Invasion, I highly recommend you just rest. Once you’re at the end of the pathway, there will be another horn to blow and this takes you to Metry’s Boss arena.

Best Build To Beat Metyr, Mother of Fingers

Before we actually get into the fight, let’s talk about the build. You can use the Cold Greatsword with the Lion’s Claw and the fingerprint Stone Shield with the No Skill Ash of War. You can also choose the Cold Misericorde also aspected to cold for higher criticals.

As for armor, you can go with anything but I recommend you to use Rakshahsa set for this fight. For Talisman, you can go with Ritual Sword Talisman for 10% damage boost at full health, Shard of Alexander for 15% boosts on Skills, Great-Jar’s Arsenal for equipment load breathing, and Pearldrake Talisman +3 for added damage negation for her Magic-Based attacks.

For Wondrous Physick, you can have the Magic-Shrouding Cracked Tear for added magic damage and Winged Crystal for reducing equip load. If you want to add defense with the shield then you can add a Staff to use the Scholar Shield Spell to boost it by 30% guarded physical and 70% Guarded Magic reduction. You can have the following values for your build.

  • 60 Vigor

  • 20 Mind

  • 43 Endurance

  • 80 Strength

  • 39 Dexterity

  • 21 Intelligence

  • 32 Faith

  • 8 Arcane

You can utilize these numbers to fit whatever level you’re at or what level build you go with.

Metyr Attacks and How to Counter them

Body Slam

Metyr has the Body Slam attack that she’ll do. You can either get far enough away and roll back or you could just run away from it. Either way, after she’s done on her windup, you could get in a spell or two. But this is Metyr’s best attack.

Finger Slam

She points her head up in the air, does the finger charge, and then smashes it into the ground. You have about a couple of seconds to run out of the way and get to an open point where there’s no magic on the ground because that’s where the finger shots are going to go up. After that, you can take your time to heal or you could get into a spell or you can shoot a bow at this range.

Double Swipe Attack

Metyr also has a Double Swipe Attack. To dodge this, you could either dodge at perfect timing right before it hits or you could just run away from it.

Finger Monsters

Metyr also opens up her chest and has a bunch of finger monsters leave it. You can use the Blasphemous blade to kill them When you see it happen you could probably use your Blasphemous blade right away to take them out but you need to be careful because she’ll follow up as soon as she’s done, so you need to be on alert.

Two Hand Slam

Metyr will also have a Two Hand slam to a Double Hand fist smash down. You just have to back away from this and you’ll be fine but if you need to roll because you are at close range, just dodge it.

Elbow Slam

Metyr will also do a little bit of an Elbow Slam. Just move back and dodge if you have to but then be ready for a finger flick on her side. When she does that, just roll back and you will be good to go. I don’t recommend rolling into it but you probably can.

Jump attack

Metyr will also do an open-up jump attack. For this, you need to be close to her when you see her opening up the stomach. When she jumps on her way down then make sure you’re running forward and you’ll do a roll and this way you’ll be able to dodge this.

Tips to Beat Metyr, Mother of Fingers

Here are the tips that can follow to kill Metyr, Mother of Fingers.

  • She’s weak to slash damage, so if you’re Katanas or Claws she’s weak to those. You can go with the Greatsword because this will help you to take her down as quickly as possible before she ever gets a chance to unleash hell in phase 2.

  • Her chest is a weak spot and you can do lots of damage by targeting it with attacks. It also makes it easier to break her stance.

  • When you arrive in Metyr’s Boss arena you have time to buff and everything before Metyr knows you’re there. So be sure to do so before approaching her. You can go with Wondrous Physick, Golden Val and then flame grant me strength. Once you’re done buffing, approach Metyr and she’ll likely open with a laser attack.

  • If she does a laser attack then just tank it with your shield while running and getting close. She’ll do a straight shot and then follow it up with a sweeping laser which she can tank both with the shield. Your strategy should be to get in super close and start unloading the Lion’s Claw Ash of War on the weak spot. It takes roughly three hits of Lion’s claw on the chest to break her stance but you can also use Stonebarb Cracked if you want to possibly make that less. Once staggered, her head will drop down and you can hit a critical on it. She recovers fast, so make sure you get to the head quickly.

  • Metyr also tries to jump up in the air and try to land on you and you can also smash her head down for a heavy attack. You can tank the head smash with the shield but for the leaping attack, you can dodge to her sides as far away as you can avoid the impact.

  • When She reaches 50 % of her health then phase 2 starts. Metyr will rise up in the air and unleash a burst of purple light. This can damage you, so be sure to protect yourself as much as possible. The strategy is to dodge and roll into it as the blasts go.

  • The same strategy applies from phase 1 to phase 2 as her weak spot hasn’t changed. She just gets slightly more aggressive with more tools in her arsenal.

  • Keep hitting the chest weak spot with Lion’s Claw, break her stance, and land that critical.

Reward

After defeating the Metyr, Mother of Fingers, you will be rewarded with the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers. This reward can either be sold or consumed for 40,000 Runes, or you can hand it over to Enia in Roundtable Hold to unlock Staff of the Great Beyond.
