New Secrets in Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree - Painting, Old Man, Woman, Messmer, Kicking Weapon, and More

From Software, the developers of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Demon Souls, and Blood Borne, always had some tricks up their sleeves. The sheer details and secrets they throw in trailers or cutscenes take months if not years to discover. The same goes with the Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree, as players are slowly putting pieces of the puzzle together. Here in this guide, we will be sharing with you some New Secrets in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree, which you probably missed in its trailer.

The DLC is just around the corner and there are some really bone-chilling discoveries that are linking together to other scenarios in the game. With that being said, let’s dive straight into the topic.

New Weapon in Elden Ring DLC - Kicking Martial Arts Weapon

New Weapon in Elden Ring DLC - Kicking Martial Arts Weapon

Hand-to-hand combat has always been a questionable part of the Souls-Borne franchise, and Elden Ring is no different. In the trailer of Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree, players can spot various magic spells and a unique type of weapons as well.

Out of all of those, the most talked about weapon in Elden Ring DLC involves hand-to-hand combat. The foot combat style is quite like Sekiro, another masterpiece from “From Software”, but a completely different game with a different approach.

What is this new weapon type? Well, as speculations are, this new weapon type in Elden Ring DLC is “Kicking Weapons”. This weapon is actually a crest or a belt that the player wears and starts kicking the enemies.

In the trailer, you can slow down the scene where the player is using the kicking skills, as well as look at the pictures of the trailer. The character is seen wearing a special type of belt/crest on the waist with golden color and embroidery.

The gameplay footage also has a necklace the player is wearing on the right chest side. But it isn’t seen in the picture. So, the martial arts or kicking weapon in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree might be a belt, crest on the waist, a necklace, or even a combination of all.

This could all just be a speculation because From Software, the developers of Elden Ring have a history of throwing players off, as the speculations turn out to be a bluff.

All in all, there is still a high chance that our new weapon type could be a belt, just like MMA, where the champions are represented by a belt they wear.

Painting of Old Man and a Woman in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of Erdtree

Painting of Old Man and a Woman in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of Erdtree

While it was initially missed by the audience and the content creators, it is now popping off recently as a new discovery. In the Elden Ring DLC we come across a painting and its right side is clear, where we also see a lady standing next to this old man.

Painting’s Left Side

The left side of the painting is dark and it is impossible to see anything there. While it initially looks as if the right part of the painting is the major area, that is certainly not true.

The painting is hung on the wall at an angle, which indicates that the left part of the picture is equally as big as the right part.

While most of the players would just be saying that it makes no sense to speculate on what's on the left side, there have been previous experiences with From Software, where they did reveal an interesting secret through a painting.

In the summer fest trailer for Elden Ring, we saw a painting in the Volcano Manor, and in front, a crucible knight was standing. This picture was of Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy.

Painting’s Left Side in Elden Ring DLC resembles that of summer fest trailer Painting of King with snakes

In the trailer, the painting was dark, and Rykard had snakes on his hand, while in the final cut release, the painting was brightened and the snakes were removed.

So, this indicates that the left part of the painting was smudged and darkened on purpose to hide a clear secret from the fans of Elden Ring DLC.

Old Man in Painting

Besides this, did you know that there is also a new secret revealed in the Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree through this painting? The old man in the painting is actually the same old man with golden bones coming out.

You can match the cloak and symbols on his clothing to know about this detail. So, this painting does hold significance.

Miquella and Messmer in Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree

Going a bit into depth and putting the pieces of the puzzle together, let’s discuss another mechanic and secret in Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, through its trailer.

Ring in Miquella’s Hand

In the intro cutscene of the Mogh boss fight, after he comes out of the Cocoon beside Miquella, he takes the Cadaver’s hand. At that moment you can see that there is a ring on the finger, portrayed in the cutscene.

Ring in Miquella’s Hand has a connection to Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of Erdtree

Why is this important if all of it is old or pre-DLC? Well, we know for a fact that the entrance to Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree is through this same location, so it becomes a place of priority.

Ring in Miquella's Hand Resemble 3 Snakes similar to Snake abilites of Messmer in Elden Ring DLC

Through the SekiroDubi Footage of the Ring on the hand in Elden Ring, we can see that it resembles three snakes curling and forming a ring.

Now, we have Miquella’s hand that takes us to the Land of Shadows, and it also symbolizes that the body inside the Cocoon isn’t of Miquella.

Miyazaki himself quoted that “The body has a strong relation to Miquella”, but he never said that it was indeed Miquella.

The Secret of Messmer in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of Erdtree

All of this takes us to Messmer, whose whole personality is based on snakes. A cursed and forgotten enemy. So, all of this could be Miquella’s plan taking place or something similar.

It could also be that the real body of Messmer is inside the Cocoon instead of Miquella. There are then some other observations about Messmer that are quite similar to what we have inside the game pre-DLC.

The Secret of Messmer in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of Erdtree - Black Red Blood Flames

Looking at the Elden Ring DLC footage, we can see Messmer’s hand conjuring a black flame that turns blood red, and then into a fire.

Black Red Blood Flames of Messmer Resemble Mogh in Elden Ring

These three phases are quite similar to Mogh the Omen before fighting, as he first turns into a black entity, and then slowly becomes blood red.

Also, there is quite a similarity between the blood flame and Messmer’s flame that he conjures. In the trailer for DLC, we also got footage of Messmer fighting, as he throws his blood that turns into fire.

All in all Messmer’s flame has a variety of every flame in the Elden Ring, including the black, red, blood, and even lava.

Elden Gods, Numens, Elden Ring DLC Old Man, Women in Painting, and More

We already discussed the old man in the painting in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree. That old man is the same person who is seen pulling golden bones out of his head. The mystery remained unanswered as to who he might be.

Elden Gods, Numen, and Golden Bones

In the Elden Ring, the Elden Golds are a species of aliens who are from out of the Lands Between. These species are referred to as Numens, and as seen in the game itself, the power of Elden Gold remains in their bones.

Elden Gods, Numen, and Golden Bones - Elden Gods Abilites from their Bones

All the Elden Gods are seen using their bones as weapons and so on. One example of this can be Radagon and Marika. When we defeat Radagon, he goes underwater and then transforms into an Elden Being, which is the final boss of the Elden Ring.

Elden Gods, Numen, and Golden Bones - Elden Gods Abilites from their Bones

The weapon of this Elden Being - Final Boss is a spine-like sword made of bones. If you take a closer look at Radagon and Marika, there is an Elden Ring symbol inside them, which is also the spine made of bones.

Old Man from Painting in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of Erdtreee is an Elden God, potentially father of Mireka, pulling Golden Bones out

So, it could be that the Old Man in the Painting in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree is also an Elden God because the Golden Bones are coming out of the body.

The Old Man from the Painting could also be the Father of Marika in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree. It could be the biggest secret in the Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree trailer so far.

Women in Elden Ring DLC Painting - Deathbed Companions

Women in Elden Ring DLC Painting - Deathbed Companions

She looks exactly like the Deathbed Companion whom we also talk with in Lands Between known as Fia. In Fia’s dress description, we find out that it is actually a Deathbed Companion's dress.

Fia - Deathbed Companion, connection to Elden Ring DLC Painting Woman next to Old Man

The woman in the painting of Elden Ring DLC is wearing the same Deathbed Companion dress. These companions also come from outside the Lands Between, from a distant land.

Numen Runes and Elden Runes from Ant Sacks in Elden Ring

In the location where we find Fia and ants, there are eggs that break and then give you Numen Runes. These ants actually ate Numen’s and then in return when making sacks, we found lots of Numen Runes.

You also find the Elden Stars Incantations here that depict the birth of Holy Vassel and the Elden Ring. So, this area could well be the settlement of Numen’s.

The Deathbed Companions have a death wish, and the Golden Order destroys everything it lays its hands over. So, the connection between Elden Golds, Numen’s, Golden Order, and Deathbed Companions fit perfectly, as seen in the dark roots of the area.

Conclusion

So, this concludes our New Secrets in Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of Erdtree that you probably missed. It revolves around the Old Man and Woman painting for the most part. Then, it also takes a turn on the Miquella cutscene of Mogh, which is also the entrance point to Elden Ring DLC. Finally, it links to Messmer, who has the same dark and red blood flame animation alongside snakes as Mogh. Also, did we forget to mention that there are new weapons and the best one is a martial arts weapon that allows you to kick enemies? Well, it is related to a belt or crest that you wear.

The Elden Ring DLC will be released in late June, and all of the speculations or secrets are from the Elden Ring DLC Trailer. We tried to be as authentic as possible, but in the end, it could all be just speculation. As always, happy gaming!
