Getting Started

You need to cover a few essential mini-steps before you get into the universe. Star Citizens 4.0 is not a game that you can jump directly into, it requires a setup beforehand.

Firstly, you need to create an account, then you will need a game package which is how you gain access to the game and your first ever ship.

  • If you want your first ship to be an allrounder, and reliable, then you should go for Avenger Titan. This ship offers good speed, solid balance, and nice combat capability and also it has a bed for logging out in space.

  • Aurora Mr and Mustang Alpha are solid entry-level ships if you are looking for something straightforward to get started with.

  • The next option is Crusader Intrepid. This ship is perfect for short cargo runs and courier jobs. It features a sleek design and great versatility.

As for where to begin it might be tempting to dive straight into the lawless chaos of Pyro with its contested zones and high-stakes danger, however, it is strongly recommended to start in the Stanton system.

Stanton is a much more forgiving place for new players to learn the basics. Here you will find bustling cities, mission hubs, and plenty of resources to get you comfortable with flying your ship, combat, and managing your ship. Pyro is a system for the bold and prepared where only the strong survive but Stanton offers the perfect training ground for building up the skills that you will need to thrive.

Create your Character/Model

After logging into the game, you will now be taking your first ever step inside the game which will be creating your character. It does not affect the gameplay at all, but this is how you will look in the universe and, you can update it anytime you want.

Movement and Basics

Once your starting location is selected, you will spawn in your hanger. If you have played FPS before, the environment will feel familiar to you. The movements are simple just like any other FPS game.

  • W, A, S, and D to move, mouse to move.

  • Q, E – Roll ship left/right.

  • Mouse Wheel – Set speed limit/target

  • C – Cruise control on/off locks forward speed to the limiter.

  • V – Flight assists on/off.

  • SHIFT – Afterburner.

  • X – Space brake.

  • L – Lights.

  • To exit seats or get up from beds, simply press and hold Y for about a second.

Once you feel comfortable with the basic controls, now is the perfect time to adjust your graphic settings to optimize performance.

Enabling upscaling can significantly improve performance without sacrificing much visual quality. If you prefer an all-around solution, CIG TSR is a great upscaling method that works across all systems.

Turning off motion blur, film grain, and chromatic aberration will reduce strain on the system and make the visuals crisper and less distracting. For performance gains, you can lower the quality of clouds, and draw distance as they are the main reason for frame drop.

Inventory Management

Inventory management is essential and Star Citizen 4.0 has streamlined some aspects while adding depth to others.

Press I to access your inventory where you can move items onto your character or interact with loot you find during missions. Items can be equipped by dragging them onto your character or simply by double-clicking, provided you have the necessary storage space.

However, with the introduction of freight elevators and kiosks, transferring items between your local inventory and your character requires a different process. You will need to interact with the storage access kiosk to move gear and supplies from your local inventory onto your person which you can find a few feet away from where you exited your hanger. This adds an extra layer of realism emphasizing the importance of preparation before leaving a hub.

Buying and equipping gear

You can buy armor, gear, weapons, and small arms from retail stores. For instance, Cubby Blast is a retail store owned by Clor Vee in Area18, ArcCorp in the Stanton system.

Get inside the store and prepare to gather your first supplies. Inside the store, you will find an array of items that will help you survive and thrive in the verse. You will access the shop terminal and begin by purchasing the armor of your choice. You can choose anything from light medium or heavy.

Just keep in mind that the heavier the armor, the slower it will move and the higher your damage reduction and the lighter the shield, the faster and more it will not be destroyed.

You will also want to carry a backpack for additional items such as weapons and some extra ammunition for defensive or combat purposes.

Multi-tool with a tractor beam attachment is an essential tool for moving cargo and bodies or retrieving loot.

If you want to, you can also get a mining attachment as well. Never forget a handful of Med pens to keep yourself alive during dangerous encounters.

When you make purchases, items are added to your storage access at the Landing Zone from here you can transfer them onto your character and into a backpack ensuring they are ready for immediate use.

Medical Basics

Injuries are localized to different parts of your body like your head, chest, arms, and legs and each injury affects you in unique ways. For example, leg injuries might limit your ability to Sprint or climb while head injuries can blur your vision or distort your hearing. These injuries are categorized into three tiers each requiring different levels of care.

  • Minor injuries or tier three are the most common and manageable if you take minor damage, a med pen or a med gun can stabilize you and counteract side effects.

  • Tier two injuries are more serious while a med gun can still provide temporary relief, you will need access to a tier 2 bed to fully recover.

  • Severe injuries or tier one are critical injuries, these can render you immobile or unable to use your arms and will require a tier one bed at a hospital for complete healing these injuries will pretty much take you out of the fight immediately.

Missions

It is time to dive into one of the most rewarding parts of Star Citizen 4.0, taking on a mission. Each Mission type offers its challenges. Bounty contracts will test your combat prowess against targets ranging from Easy NPCs to formidable opponents in dangerous territory.

If you choose the right missions, especially as you gain higher rep, delivery missions will have you navigate Stanton's Min stations and outposts to deliver packages. These missions often reveal new locations.

Preparation for Pyro

Exploring the dangers and opportunities it offers with your progress in Stanton underway, it is time to prepare for the leap to Pyro, a system defined by dangers and opportunities.

Upon arriving at Pyro Gateway, you will notice this station is not just a waypoint it is a vital Lifeline for anyone navigating the Perils of Pyro. Before venturing further into the law system one of the first things that you should do is set your respawn location. If you are planning extended excursions in Pyro, make sure that you are topped off with Med pens, med guns, and plenty of supplies.

Before setting out ensure your ship is fully fuelled, repaired, and stocked with medical supplies, ammunition, and essential Provisions like food and water as Pyro stations often have limited resources.

Conclusion

Star Citizen 4.0 offers an unparalleled gaming experience, blending vast exploration with thrilling missions. This guide equips players with essential knowledge for a confident start, from ship selection to survival tips. Dive into Stanton for foundational skills, then conquer Pyro’s challenges as you master the universe’s complexities and unleash your potential.
