Wrath of the Lich King is a masterpiece of its own accord. And with the new Classic mode, there are many new players trying to get the hang of what’s what in that expansion. Well – we’re here to help.
We’ve prepared a series of guides for you to find out how to get around this new and awesome addition to the World of Warcraft Classic package. In this guide, we’re going to talk about mining – what it is and how to do it most efficiently. Are your pick axes ready? Well then – here we go!
The answer is simple – for money. After all these years, it is still one of the most basic ways to gain a lot of profit. And – one of the most often chosen professions in World of Warcraft. Why? Well, it lets you not only gather lots and lots of resources you would otherwise not be able to get, or you’d have to put up some good money for. On top of that, it lets you gain resources you can then sell on the market. It’s a win-win-win situation for sure.
It’s also a profession that goes well with many others. For example, it is recommended to get Mining if you’re considering going into Blacksmithing, where ore is used to create weapons and armor, Engineering to create some cool gadgets, or making gems in Jewelcrafting. As you can see, ore is a vital material that is always in high demand.
It’s also an advantageous profession in the endgame, as you can find some Saronite or Titansteel Bars that are essential for progress. How does it work? In essence – you use your Find Minerals skill, get close to a vein, whip up your Mining Pick and start extracting the minerals. It’s really as simple as that, although it may take some time for you to get used to it.
Where is the best place to buy Wotlk Classic Gold? You can visit a professional Wotlk Classic Gold selling shop MMOPixel.
In all cases, World of Warcraft's complexity allows some classes, races, and professions to work better together. At least a little bit more than others. Here you can find what Races, Classes, and Professions work best with Mining.
As we’ve stated before, Mining is great when you mix it with other professions. The best are naturally Engineering, Blacksmithing, and Jewelcrafting. Combining those with Mining will get you ahead in the game when it comes to the money aspect and creation as well.
If you want to go for the money aspect, you should go for Skinning. With two gathering professions, you’ll be able to quickly acquire a lot of money from resources.
When it comes to the classes, things are a bit more subtle. The best thing you can do as a class is to make the potential mobs not threaten you while you’re gathering the necessary resources. In this case, it’s good to pick Rogue. They have Stealth, Sap, Blind, and Vanish that will allow you to do your job uninterrupted.
In the case of Hunters – you get Feign Death and a pet that will trouble the enemies while you’re doing your thing. It’s similar to Warlocks with their Fear and also a pet. Mages make good use of Polymorph in that kind of situation. The same goes for Druids with Prowl. In this case, you need to remember that they can’t mine in Travel or Flight Form.
Race bares no impact on how good you can be at Mining. Horde and Alliance can all be professional Miners.
Changes in WotLK, besides additional levels, are pretty minor when it comes to Mining. For example, you don’t have to tap continuously when mining, you can just tap one time and get the resources. The other thing that you get is a passive stamina buff called Toughness. There are six levels of it based on how high your Mining level is. It goes from additional Stamina at Rank 1 to 60 at Rank 6, so it makes some kind of impact after all.
As usual in World of Warcraft, there are a couple of ways to get to the highest level of Mining. And, in the case of this profession, you can do it in many different places. For starters – you will need to find a Mining Trainer to show you how it works and how to develop your Mining Skill. Here is a list of where you can find them.
Old World |
You can get from Apprentice Mining to even Artisian level in most capitals. We would recommend Eastern Kingdoms for starting as it is the best place to level this skill on your own as well. If you’re a part of Alliance, make sure to check out Georfram Bouldertoe in Ironforge. Alternatively, you can visit Gelman Stonehand in Stormwind. For Horde players, you should find Brom Killian in Undercity or Bell in Silvermoon. |
Outland |
Master Mining Trainers are accessible after going through the Dark Portal to Outland. For Alliance, find Hurnak Grimmord at Honor Hold. If you play as a part of the Horde – it’s Krugosh in Thrallmar. There are two neutral trainers available there as well. Get to Shattrath and find Fono of The Aldor and Hanlir of The Scryers. |
Northrend |
With this new expansion, we got some additional levels for Mining and all other professions in form of Grand Master Mining. Trainers for this can be found in your faction’s fort, depending on the site you decided to support. In the case of the Alliance, find Fendrig Redbeard in Valiance Keep. If you’re a part of the Horde, find Brunna Ironaxe at Warsong Hold. There is also one neutral trainer Jedidiah Handers if you’ve already have an access to Dalaran. |
To level Mining, you have to pretty much do the same thing as in every profession in World of Warcraft. You have to grind. There are many mining routes, and we will tell you all about them in this Mining Profession overview. Of course, you can find your mining route if you happen to be close to one or have a quest nearby.
Mineral nodes can be found around the outer borders of a zone, and they’re called circuits. It’s the best strategy to complete those circuits, as you will find most of the precious minerals you need around those. Here are the locations where you can find them.
It’s the most difficult part of Mining for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s extremely uneven, and you know what it means in practice. Lots and lots of adjusting. The mining node is between Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. And, because there are no flying mounts anymore, it adds to the whole experience. To start your journey with leveling mining, you need to find a mining trainer and ask them to teach you Apprentice Mining. With that, you can get Find Minerals which will help you get the materials you need.
Journeyman Mining |
This is one of the most important steps in your journey. You can find it in the first zone around the starting area. After you gather enough of it, go to the trainer and learn Journeyman Mining. |
Expert Mining |
You can get this one in many locations, depending on the side you’ve chosen. Tin Ore:
Silver Ore (Mining 75)
After reaching 125, you can find a trainer and learn Expert Mining. |
Artisan Mining |
Iron Ore/Iron Deposit (Mining 125)
Gold Ore/Gold Vein (Mining 155)
After reaching 175, you can find a trainer and learn Artisan Mining. |
Master Mining |
Mithril Ore/Mithril Deposit (Mining 175)
Truesilver Ore/Truesilver Deposit (Mining 205)
Dark Iron Ore/Dark Iron Deposit (Mining 230)
After reaching level 275, you can find a trainer and learn Master Mining. |
At this point, you can go to the Outlands to level further. This one will also introduce the concept of Rich and Pure mining nodes. Those will give you a higher chance of getting rare minerals. Rich Adamantite Deposit has an additional benefit as it allows you to level up with it until you reach 375. Why does it matter? Well, you get your Mining skill level faster.
After reaching 350, most players will head out to more rich Cobalt nodes, and those would be one of the most highly competitive zones in the whole World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic world. So, by leveling with Rich Adamantite, you can get ahead!
Grand Master Mining |
275 – 350 – Mining Fel Iron Ore and Adamantite Ore Fel Iron Ore/Fel Iron Deposit
Adamantite Ore/Adamantite Deposit (325)
Rich Adamantite Deposit (350)
After reaching level 350, you can go to a trainer and become a Grand Master. |
After reaching level 350 or, as we said before, level 375 with Rich Adamantite, you can go to Northrend, where the real WotLK part of gaming starts. There is Cobalt and Saronite Ore here, both in Rich versions as well. There is also one “pure” version of Saronite, but we will get at it further.
350-450 – Mining Cobalt Ore/Saronite Ore |
Cobalt Ore/Cobalt Deposit
Rich Cobalt Deposit (375)
Saronite Deposit (400)
Rich Saronite Deposit (425)
|
Pure Saronite Deposit (450) |
The only Pure Saronite vein is in Ulduar. It’s at the ending part of the raid with reaching the Prison of Yogg-Saron. After reaching the chamber of General Vezax, right before the fight, you can find Pure Deposit. It is not guaranteed but it happens, so make sure to look out for it. This one will not get you a rare Titanium Ore though, like other pure deposits, but you will get a chance of yielding Eternal Shadows and Eternal Earth. |
This is the place you’ve been waiting for, it’s the one where magic and everything else happens. Here you get the chance to get one of the most sought-after ore in the whole World of Warcraft – Titanium. It’s an essential part of creating the most looked-for equipment in the game.
Training mining, the whole leveling process, gathering ore, and hoping for a chance for dropping rare materials – this is the peak of this process. First – you need to find Titanium Vein. It’s mostly spread around Icecrown, Sholazar Basin, and The Storm Peaks. You have to be in your best form though, as there are many players looking for the same stuff in the same zones you are, which can create a lot of friction.
Why do you want Titanium Bar? You can create a Titnasteel Bar with it. In addition to being a great tool to create equipment and Engineering items with, it is the only mineral, with Saronite Bar, that can be used to craft patterns and enchants from ToC and ICC. So, it’s really good to invest in some Mining to get ahead!
The entire route from being a single most basic Miner to a true professional is sometimes hard but it pays off in the end. With so many crafting professions out there, the supply of the minerals you can get with your skill is mindblowing. In previous Classic expansions, there really wasn’t enough to go on with all this mining business, but with the Wrath of the Rich King – there is a big improvement. Remember about few key issues when it comes to this Profession:
to learn Mining you have to start Mining!
go only to the level-appropriate zones as it is indeed pretty hard if everyone is looking for the same thing
simply complete circuits, don’t go astray as you may not be as efficient as possible and it’s the key when it comes to the power leveling
remember to check out the outer edges of every major capital to get ahead!
Mining in World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King Classic is definitely worth trying out. It is not only one of the best ways to get ahead when it comes to the money aspect but also – pairing it with one of the crafting professions mentioned before, you can create something that will give you an upper hand in combat.
