Usually, it will take end-game to complete such builds, but here we have a build that you can make early on and dominate Elden Ring in 2024, preparing for the release of Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree.
About the Best Early Mage Build
Our early mage build is going to revolve around the Death Poker that utilizes Frostbite to freeze enemies and deal massive damage. Alongside it, we have weapon arts and light attacks that add up with the frostbite.
In Elden Ring 2024, this pairs well together, as you become overpowered in a mere 30 minutes or so if done right.
Choosing Starting Class and Keepsake for Mage Build
There are others you can choose, but the best pick for the early mage build is going to be Astrologer because of the 16 intelligence you get early on. The keepsake you need to pick is going to be your Golden Seed, because you are going to rush to the Gatefront Site of Grace, picking up Torian from there.

Now that you have the character created and your keepsake ready, it's time to start the adventure and gather all the items you need to complete the build.
Flail
Ride to the wagon, the second one, and there is a weapon that can get you thousands of runes in the game. Riding the horse, you can cast your magic as well, which makes things effortless for the most part.
Flail is a weapon that requires stats to be used, so you just have to get and hold onto it for a while before you can use it. On the second wagon, you will find the Flail.
Golden Pickled Foul Foot
Now, you have to travel south till you reach the location, mentioned in the image above. Here, you will find a hill and a crucified person on top of that.
This is the same location where you will find the Golden Pickled Foul Foot, around the golden tree.
The Golden Pickled Foul Foot will enhance the rune gain, and that will in turn help us push the intelligence to 40 because of 100k runes.
Gravitational Magic and Meteorite Staff
Go to the lake area following the image above, in the ruins, and you will reach the destination towards your next gear item for the Elden Ring Early Mage Build.
Teleport into the Caelid Sellia Crystal Tunnel. There is a Sombra Smithing Stone there, and then there is also a Magic Sorcery.
You will find the Smithing Stone next to the bridge. If having trouble, follow the location on the image above.
Into the lake and to the Dragon Burnt ruins, bypassing everything, and going under. Use the magic to defeat the underground rats.
Open the chest to get teleported, and go left to the Site of Grace. Rest there after teleportation because you got teleported from a trapped chest, and the chances of getting teleportation locked are high here.
Get straight out of here, ride, and stick to your right side. On the way, you will find a Somber Smithing Stone 5 as well.
Go to the Swamp of Aeonia, and you can go into the ruins underground. Open the chest in the cave to get the Gravitational Magic, which you need for the Early Mage Build in Elden Ring.
Get out of there, and on your left, you will find stairs leading you up the ruins. There is a tower and inside it, there is an enemy flower as well. Here, you will find the Meteorite Staff as well.

Farming 100,000 Runes For Early Mage Build
Now that we have everything it is time to start farming for Elden Ring Runes because flail is a weapon that requires stats from your end. To get those, we prepared this 100k Rune Farming technique.
Note: We are going to use the flail to slay a dragon in the Elden Ring, so it becomes compulsory for our Mage Build.
When you are at the Site of Grace, Milena will welcome you to the roundtable hold. Reject it for the time being, and go to the location mentioned in the image above.
First go west, alongside the cliffs in Caelid. Bypass everything except the graves/tomb that you see. Loot them to get Golden Runes. A certain destination is met, where you see the tower on your right, and the Elden tree on your left.
Jump over the cliff using your ride, and start going towards the tower, which is in the location of Greyoll’s Dragonbarrow. The location will be described in the image above, as before.
You will need a ton of mana here, so whenever you are at the site of grace, make sure you use the golden seed to increase your number of flasks to mana flasks. Don’t worry about your health here, you only need mana.
Below the massive tower, on the east side, there is a scarab. You can just run behind it with your ride, and start spamming your magic. It will take time, but you can stay on your horse to take down the scarab.
Later on, you will be using the same Smithin Stones to upgrade your weapon. So, they are required for the build.
On the other side, below the cliff to the right of where you killed the scarab, facing the tower, you can drop down and get another Smithing Stone.
Moving on, you will find more tombs, where you also find more Smithing Stones.
After you have everything, we are done there. Let’s move on to the castle at the pinpointed location in the image above. You will find the mother of dragons here, lying there in pain, not attacking anyone who comes to her and attacks her.
From that same spot, you can get 96000 runes in the Elden Ring. If you can glitch her, this can be done an infinite amount of times, giving you the same amount of Elden Ring Runes.
Behind the dragon, outside the castle, you will find a site of grace. There, you need to eat the runes you have, and put 1 point in dexterity, taking it from 12 to 13. Also, you can put the other in intelligence, taking it from 16 to 17.
Go into Fort Faroth, and on your left, you will find a ladder taking you up. Loot the box for Dectus Medallion, and drop it down from your right side. Miss the first underground area, and jump into the second.
Pick the rune to your forward-right. Then go behind, and you will find a giant rat. Behind it, you will find a way down, and another item known as Radagon’s Soreseal.
Die there, and respawn at the site of grace you just sat at. Equip the flail in both of your hands and equip the seal. Go to the dragon, and use the Spinning Chain weapon art.
When the mana runs out, use your mana flask. Do this again and again to bleed the mother of dragons in the Elden Ring.
Note 1: glitching the dragon is your choice if you want more runes. To do this, you need to stop two rotations before bleeding out the dragon. Use the foulfoot to gain 30% more runes.
Note 2: before the dragon dies, jump on your mount to the right side of the dragon, towards the site of grace that you unlocked alongside the castle. Rest there, and the dragon will die. If you are fast enough, the dragon will die, and still be there, while you also get the Elden Ring Runes.
