New World PvP Scaling Bug Explained

New World has had its fair share of problems and being an MMORPG, these bugs do make a ton of difference overall. Recently, there has been a recent discovery of a New World PvP Scaling Bug that interrupts the PvP experience inside the game. Let’s discuss the issue at hand here and what's the future related to this bug.

What is the PvP Scaling Bug in New World?

New World PvP Scaling Bug Explained by Dragon Flame

New World PvP Scaling Bug interrupts the overall game in PvP mode, especially with some weapons, as they are not performing where they used to be. Like the Boltcaster, that has been buffed so much that using one seems like bug abuse.

The PvP Scaling Bug was discovered and discussed in detail by DragonFlame on the New World Discord Server. But it was only the base level of this bug, while players further dug into it and found it to be a much bigger problem at hand here.

With the expansion of New World, certain weapons stats were changed, like;

  • Musket - Base damage increased from 78 to 83 for PvE and down to 73 in PvP

  • Bow - Base damage increased from 67 to 72 in PvE and down to 62 in PvP

  • Blunderbuss - Base damage increased from 78 to 80 in PvE and down to 73 in PvP

This scaling is different for the PvP and PvE, as you can see above, and scaled differently for the scenario. Same as always, this was done to balance the weapons in a new way, because of the removal of Ward and Bane.

The PvP Scaling Bug, to everyone's surprise, is a by-product of the same scaling, as it doesn’t work as intended. The scaling won’t work in certain situations where you have an elemental gem or a weapon that is fully scaling with Elemental Damage like Boltcaster.

How Does PvP Scaling Bug Work in the New World?

A clear demonstration behind the New World PvP Scaling Bug seems to be affiliated with the scaling of ranged thrust damage only. For Example: If you usually have a 14 percent reduction PvP and you were using an in-gem on all attacks that are classified as that type of range damage, then there is a 7 percent damage boost.

With the Boltcaster, you don’t get any other reduction at all, and you are getting the extra 40 percent here. You can’t test it at all because the dummies are not considered a PvP. So, in the start, players couldn’t catch up to this bug.

So, to test this bug out, players had to hit a dummy and afterward hit an unarmored player. The difference between these two makes the PvP Bug clear. So, you will have an uneven value of damage in the case of ranged weapons while hitting the player. The thrust damage still gets a normal reduction, while the elemental damage doesn’t.

PvP Scaling Bug in New World - Damage Reduction only on Dummy

This is nearly for all the ranged weapons but the scaling is based on the weapon itself. Like: There is 14 percent on the Musket and 12 percent on the Blunderbuss. Thus, the difference is clear on the physical range side in contrast to the magical.

PvP Bug in New World Scaling Issues

The PvP Bug doesn’t end with the differences, as the major issue still holds up with the scaling part of items as well. The elemental damage with the weapons is not reduced and the thrust damage is the one that gets reduced by the update.

According to Dragon Flame, the guy on Discord who initially discovered this PvP Bug in New World mentioned that on the Blunderbuss, the Splitting Grenade doesn’t get the reduction.

With the gems and how people use the weapons, mostly the damage is not thrust, so the reduction doesn’t apply to it in the PvP.

Boltcasters and PvP Scaling Bug

Boltcasters aren’t considered anywhere near being a good weapon, but with the PvP Scaling Bug behind its back, it is now clear that the Boltcasters are pretty good weapons. The usage of Boltcasters by players currently at the time proves that they are great.

Will the PvP Scaling Bug in New World be fixed?

Soon after the bug was discovered, a new patch was up in the line for New World players. The patch was for the Musket and the Bow, especially to enhance their damage in the PvE. Furthermore, there are also changes on the Blunderbuss as well, which enhance the effects of the PvP Scaling Bug in New World, instead of fixing the issue.

This will create a huge gap between the normal weapons in New World and the elemental split weapons, alongside bolt casters, and so on.

Are Developers aware of the New World PvP Scaling Bug?

New World PvP Scaling Bug - Developers, Fix, and Future

At the moment, it is confirmed on the Discord server for New World that the developers are aware of the bug, and the slow response is because of the New Year, Christmas, and the holidays.

Furthermore, it also takes a ton of time to figure out a way that this gets fixed and other things remain intact as well, because the latest new season updates are quite new to the game as well, separating the PvP and the PvE scaling altogether.

Conclusion

New World gets a ton of changes with the release of the new season, but as players start progressing in the Player Vs Player, they discover a PvP Scaling Bug in New World. Unfortunately, it took a ton of time to discover it as dummies aren’t considered PvP, but rather PvE. In these changes, the PvP and PvE scaling is different for weapons, as PvE gets enhanced stats, while they are reduced or remain the same for PvP. To everyone's surprise, PvP-reduced scaling didn’t work for the elemental, but rather only the thrust damage, and so, the game gets unbalanced in PvP, which shifts the whole dynamic of the game. The developers know about this PvP Scaling Bug but will take some time to fix the issue, and for the time being, this will get severe further down the line because of the enhancements to PvE scaling for ranged weapons.
