Carolina Hurricanes - 92

With good cause, many predict that Carolina will lift the Lord Stanley's Cup at the conclusion of the 2022–2023 season. Carolina has a steady amount of highly rated players, as seen by the fact that their top seven players are only distanced by four points while being the only team listed without even a single player graded 90 OVR or above (85 to 89 OVR). The attack is led by Sebastian Aho & Andre Svechnikov, while the defense is led by Jaccob Slavin, and Brent Burns, with Brett Pesce (both 86 OVR). You can be certain that Frederick Andersen, one of the best goalies in the game, will allow a few goals.

The Hurricanes, who finished with 116 points, third-most behind Florida and Colorado, are hoping to improve on their dismal second-round elimination. They won the Metropolitan division after finishing first, and if the buzz is any indicator, they should do the same as they go toward a possible Stanley Cup win.

NHL 23 Sebastian Aho

Tampa Bay - 92

If Tampa Bay is able to lift the Stanley Cup at the conclusion of the season for the 3rd time in four seasons, they will have officially entered a mini-dynasty. Featuring defenseman Victor Hedman, winger Nikita Kucherov, & center Steven Stamkos, the Lightning have a three-headed monster in NHL 23. Additionally, they have Andrei Vasilevskiy who is almost impregnable in goal and is the greatest goaltender in NHL 23.

With 110 points, Tampa Bay finished second in the Atlantic in 2021–2022. That didn't stop them from pulling off what many believed to be a preordained three-peat and making it to the Stanely Cup Finals. Unfortunately, Colorado, the eventual winner, defeated the Lightning and its supporters in six games.

NHL 23 Victor Hedman

Boston Bruins - 91

Boston, one of "The Original Six," has played at a high level throughout the majority of the franchise's history. The Bruins are among four teams in NHL 23 ranked at 91 OVR, just a point behind the top two teams in the competition. They are headed by seasoned players Patrice Bergeron n the center, David Pastrnak in the wings, and veteran Brad Marchand. The defensive flanks are manned by Hampus Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy. The net can be manned by Jeremy Swayman or Linus Ullmark (both 85 OVR).

Boston qualified for the playoffs in 2021–2022, but Carolina disgracefully beat them in the opening round. They intend to capitalize on their fourth-place Atlantic Division performance (107 points) to position themselves for yet another Stanley Cup Finals triumph.

NHL 23 David Pastrnak

Colorado Avalanche - 91

The Avalanche are in a position for hockey to produce once again another repeat champion since they are only one point behind Tampa Bay and Carolina. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar, two players with Colorado's second-best overall score (94) in the contest, are the team's leaders. Their only rival is Connor McDavid. In 2021–2022, Makar earned the Norris Memorial Trophy as the best defenseman and the Smyth Trophy as the playoff's most valuable player, helping Colorado reach and win its first Stanley Cup Finals after 2001. They do, however, expect that Alexander Georgiev might take over in goal for the departed Darcy Kuemper.

Unless you include the entire season as a run, Colorado didn't merely capture the Stanley Cup Finals in 2021–2022 as a club on a hot streak. They finished second just to Florida across both categories with 56 victories and 119 points. The Avalanche cruised through the postseason, dropping only four games overall, sweeping both the first round as well Conference Finals, and defeating Tampa Bay 4-2 in the finals to win the Stanley Cup.

NHL 23 Nathan MacKinnon

Calgary Flames - 90

Calgary is a squad that intends to keep its top-ranked status in the Pacific Division for the 2021–2022 season. They are headed by center Nazem Kadri, right winger Elias Lindholm (both 89 OVR), and left winger Jonathan Huberdeau. They have a strong goaltender in Jacob Markstrom, who is tied for third place in the game's goalie rankings with Andrei Vasilevskiy with Igor Shesterkin. MacKenzie Weegar towards the left and Rasmus Andersson here on right are in charge of the defense.

Calgary has 50 victories and 111 points to take first place in the Pacific Division in 2021–2022. The team defeated Dallas in six games in the first round, but in the second round, they were eliminated by Edmonton in five games. With Adams Award winner Darryl Sutter, they aim to get better and to become the first-ever Canadian team to capture the ultimate series since 1993, which would be 30 years from now.

NHL 23 Jonathan Huberdeau

Nashville Predator - 90

Nashville, a club that many could be overlooking going into the 2022–2023 season, is attempting to make up for the disappointing 2022 playoff season with a stronger 2022–2023 campaign. Roman Josi is their left defenseman, while Dante Fabbro is their right defenseman. Along with center & left winger Matt Duchene and center as well as right winger Mikael Granlund on the attacking side, Filip Forsberg controls the left flank. As one of the top goalies in the competition, Jusse Saros will let up a few goals.

With 45 victories and 97 points overall, the Predators were able to qualify for the playoffs. But in the opening round, they came up against the Colorado Avalanche of 2021–2022. Only one game was within one goal and the other was within two goals as they were wiped in four games; the other two were routs of at least 4 goals.

NHL 23 Roman Josi

New York Rangers - 90

The Rangers, another member of "The Original Six," are attempting to end a championship drought that extends back to the 1994 club captained by Mark Messier. Artemi Panarin, their left winger, is the team's captain. Mika Zibanejad is their centre . Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba, and K'Andre Miller are the defenders. You can leave Vezina Trophy winner Shesterkin in one-on-one scenarios with minimal concern because he has a 92 OVR, which is second only to Vasilevskiy among goalies.

Despite having 52 victories and 110 points overall, the New York Ranger was only able to place second throughout the Metropolitan division behind Carolina, who had 116 points. They fell in six games in the Conference Finals after making it there after playing seven matches in each of the first two rounds. Tampa Bay, who defeated them in the Conference Finals, played only eleven games during the initial two rounds.

NHL 23 Artemi Panarin

Toronto Maple Leafs - 90

Toronto, the third member of "The Original Six" on the list, aspires to defeat Calgary and every other Canadian club in order to win the Stanley Cup. Auston Matthews, who also won the Ted Lindsay Award and the Hart Memorial Trophy, is the NHL 22 cover athlete and is expected to have a strong season for both his team and himself. Mitchell Marner & William Nylander are his teammates at the wings, and John Tavares may fill in for him at the center. Defensemen like Morgan Rielly  Mark Giordano and Jake Muzzin with T.J. Brodie aid in goal prevention while Ilya Samsonov mans the goal.

Despite having 115 points and 54 victories, the Maple Leafs came in second in the Atlantic Division to Florida, who won the Presidents' Trophy (58 wins and 122 points). Tragically for Toronto, their disastrous season came to an end in seven games at the hands of the then-double champion Tampa Bay.

NHL 23 Auston Matthews
