WotLK Tailoring Guide – Become the Grandmaster Tailor

WotLK Tailoring by MMOPIXEL

Tailoring is one of the most important crafting professions in World of Warcraft for cloth wearers. Clothes alone won’t give you much protection like an armor set, so you must resort to Tailoring. In Wrath of the Lich King Classic, the level cap increases for all professions from 375 to 450.

This profession is especially useful for creating items like Embroideries, Bags, and Magical Flying Mounts. A few cloth armor pieces are one of the strongest in the game, and some are even Best in Slot for particular classes. In this guide, we’ll cover the most efficient way to train WotLK Classic Tailoring skill from 1 to 450.

When Do I Need Tailoring?

Mage's Robe of Power

Mages, Warlocks, and Priests are the best classes to benefit from this profession. It transforms the fabric you gather into powerful apparel that competes with the best armors in the game. There is no race with special advantages to Tailoring specialization, but the classes mentioned above will benefit the most from it. They can not only sell but also wear the apparel they create.

Tailoring relies on gathering fabric from mob drops, so Enchanting is a great skill to go along with it. Enchanters can disenchant most Tailored items for Enchanting materials. Others like to pick up Tailoring to improve their income even further. It’s a perfect supplement for Mining and Herbalism.

You can choose from three Tailoring specializations: Mooncloth, Spellfire, and Shadoweave. Each had specific sets to craft in The Burning Crusade, but WotLK changed that. You obtain an additional piece of cloth when you craft Moonshroud, Spellweave, or Ebonweave. All of the specialization quests begin from Lower City in Shattrath.

  • To specialize in Mooncloth Tailoring, head to Nasmara Moonsong and take the quest Becoming a Mooncloth Tailor. Head over to Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmash and do what you’re asked for. Completing the quest will give you the chance to proc additional Moonshroud.

  • To specialize in Spellfire Tailoring, head to Gidge Spellweaver and take the quest Becoming a Spellfire Tailor. Completing the quest will give you the chance to proc additional Spellweave.

  • To specialize in Shadoweave Tailoring, head to Andrion Darkspinner and take the quest Becoming a Shadoweave Tailor. Completing the quest will give you the chance to proc additional Ebonweave.

Flying Carpets

Frosty Flying Carpet

Experienced tailors can make their own Flying Carpet mounts! It requires at least 300 skill level to make a normal-speed Flying Carpet. High-end mounts, like Frosty Flying Carpet and Magnificent Flying Carpet, require 450 Tailoring are fast-speeds mounts with different colorways.

Tailored Bags

Large tailor bags are always in demand, and experienced tailors can make even 22-slot bags. Frostweave Bag with 20 slots is the most common bag you can buy, but there’s also a Glacial Bag with 22 slots. A tailor can make one of these once every 7 days, and players are willing to pay a premium for that extra slots.

Tailors can also make faction-exclusive bags:

  • Herb Bag: Emerald Bag (32 slots) – recipe found within Kalu’ak faction with Revered reputation.

  • Enchanting Bag: Mysterious Bag (32 slots) – recipe found within Wyrmrest Accord faction with Revered reputation.

  • Soulshard Bag: Abyssal Bag (32 slots) – recipe found within Knights of the Ebon Blade faction with Revered reputation.

Conclusion

Tailoring is a mandatory skill for every robe wearer and even a decent source of income. If you follow the above steps thoroughly, you will level tailoring more efficiently and save a lot of gold.
