The Elder Scrolls Online Enchanting Guide

The Elder's Scroll Online is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), where you get loads of experiences from PvP and PvE to all kinds of non-combat experiences of crafting and exploring. One of these crafting professions is Enchantment. Though it is sometimes thought of as complex and daunting, once the basics are understood, it is not so difficult. The enchanted Glyphs can be pretty game-changing in PvP combat as their effects can be extremely advantageous to a player. So, you could either sweep the floor with your opponent using enchantments or simply rack in golds selling the glyphs.

Enchanting

To do Enchantment, you need runestones, either by gathering them free of cost while exploring the game, or you can break already made glyphs in your inventory.

There are three types of runestones: Potency Runestone, Essence Runestone, and Aspect Runestone. These three together make the glyphs. Therefore, each type of runestone is required to make one Glyph.

There is a tab for Extraction on the enchanting station where you can extract runestones from a pre-existing Glyph. However, the amount extracted is never equal to the amount used to make the Glyph originally. This is because the extracted runestones are the same as the runestone used in crafting the Glyph in the first place. Hence, buying glyphs to extract materials is not recommended though extracting runestones from glyphs opens the possibility of creating new glyphs.

Rune Translating

After the runestones are gathered, the next requirement will be to find an enchanting table, so head to the nearest enchanting station. If you are new to enchanting and have never enchanted before, the runes will be marked as unknown glyphs, and you don't know their effects yet. You will have to find the runes while combining different runes randomly. Once a glyph is created, the runes you used to successfully create the Glyph will be translated in the process, and you will know their effects. Translation of the runestones is permanent, i.e., once done, you can use them anytime without worrying about the translation of that rune again.

Uses

You can apply the Glyph or enchant any item once created. All items – weapons, armor, and jewelry are enchantable. To use the glyphs, choose the item you want the enchant from your inventory and click on enchant to start enchanting, then choose from the displayed Glyphs and apply it.

Skills

Like all other crafting professions, Enchanting has passive skills that aid the Enchanting Profession. The Passive skills are as follows:

  1. Potency Improvement: Improves the levels of the glyphs created using the Potency Runestones.

  2. Aspect Improvement: Improves the quality of created glyphs based on Aspect Runestones used.

  3. Keen Eye: These make it easier to spot runestones even if you are quite a distance away (around 40 meters or closer).

  4. Hireling: You can hire an Enchanter Hireling. They will search for resources in your stead and deliver them to you the next time you log in or change zones (12 hours minimum difference between the previous and the next delivery).

  5. Runestone Extraction: This determines the increase in your chance of extracting the runestones of each type.

Potency Runes

They are to be collected from the Blue Nodes and are squared-shaped runestones. They have additive and subtractive effects as additive potency runes and subtractive potency runes that determine the effect of the created glyphs.

The Additive Potency Runes add or increase some effect in a glyph. In contrast, the Subtractive Potency Rune aids you by decreasing some effects like decreasing the stats of time required to use a skill or decreasing the damage taken from an opponent's skill.

Essence Runes

The Essence Runestone determines the type a glyph will have when created, i.e., what it does. They are gathered from Yellow Nodes and are of trapezoid shape.

Unlike other Essence Runes, Hakeiijo and Indeko cannot be acquired by the usual way of exploration or from Enchanter NPC. Hakeijo is a rare drop from Imperial city or sold at alliance bases in sewers for 5000 Tel Var Stones or from events occasionally. Indeko can be acquired from the Antiquity System.

Aspect Runes

These runestones determine the quality of a glyph. They are gathered from Red Nodes and are of a round shape.

Levelling Enchanting

Questing to collect Glyphs

There are a couple of ways to level up enchanting. The first is the usual way, i.e., collecting glyphs by doing quests and deconstructing them to gain inspiration. This inspiration is what is required to level up your enchantment profession.

Buying Glyphs and Deconstructing

The second way is to buy glyphs directly using Gold and deconstruct them to get inspiration for level up. This is both the fastest and the most expensive way to level up.

Getting help from another Enchanter

The third way is to get help from another enchanter. You get the highest inspiration when you deconstruct a glyph made by others rather than by constructing a glyph by yourself. This is because so many people team up with another player so that one person crafts the glyphs and trades them with the other, who then deconstructs them to gain inspiration.

You can do this by following the given steps:

  1. Find an enchanter willing to craft and trade glyphs with you.

  2. Collect or buy all the approximate materials required for your skill to level up to the max.

  3. Send the runes to the buddy for him to construct the glyphs.

  4. Deconstruct the glyphs you got from the buddy to gain inspiration.

  5. Repeat this many times to level your enchanting skill to the max.

Though you can collect them yourself individually, there is also the option to buy the rune stones directly from NPC Enchanter.

The approximate runes required to reach max level up in enchanting are:

  1. 300 Denata

  2. 50-100 Rekuta

  3. 150-200 Essence Runes (Cheap runes)

  4. 200 Potency Runes (All levels)

Though you can carry on enchanting and leveling up the skill for no cost with the first way of questing and collecting glyphs, the progress is very slow. To progress fast, you can opt for the second or third way based on your requirement. If you wish for a cost-effective way, then choosing the third option should be appropriate for you as in this process, you only pay the price of runestones and payment the buddy has asked, and you get to level up fast.

Whereas the second option is appropriate for you if you don't wish to use the help of another person and do leveling faster. This is the fastest but costliest way to level up Enchantment. Both options require a large amount of Gold, so keep this in mind when using these processes. If you fall short of Gold, the best way is to get it for real money.
